T-Mobile Czech Republic Deploys Cisco ASR 5000 for 4G LTE Network

May 16, 2013

The ASR 5000 routing platform will help enable T-Mobile to optimise video transmissions and offer customers a broader range of multimedia services. The solution will be implemented this year.

With one unified platform providing oversight and management of all network traffic, the operator will be able to not only enhance network speed and connectivity, but also offer innovative services that enrich the end-user experience and, in turn, enable T-Mobile to further monetize its network.

The Cisco ASR 5000 Series is purpose-built for the complexities of the mobile network. It is a robust multimedia services platform that brings a new level of network and customer intelligence that is critical for delivering real-time, personalized mobile services.

By combining multiple functions into a single carrier-class platform like the Cisco ASR 5000 Series, T-Mobile can reduce signaling overhead, distribute session management, and take full advantage of the network's control and user plane capabilities.

As network demand grows, the Cisco Next-Generation Network architecture and ASR 5000 will help enable T-Mobile to multiply network capacity.

"T-Mobile chose the Cisco ASR 5000 because of its high reliability and quality, which are absolutely necessary and essential for our network. The solution also helps ensure sufficient capacity to provide the fastest mobile Internet to our customers now and in the future,” said Vlado Klein, chief technology officer, T-Mobile Czech Republic.

According to the Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI) Global Mobile Data Traffic Forecast for 2012 to 2017, the volume of mobile data traffic will increase 13 times during the next five years and will reach a total annual volume of 134 exabytes in 2017.

This growth will be caused by, amongst other factors, the expected rapid increase in the number of mobile connected devices, of which there should be more than 10 billion by 2017.

According to the same study, by 2017, 66 percent of all mobile traffic will be video. All this leads to an increased demand for mobile operators to provide fast internet connections.
