Alcatel-Lucent optical and IP technologies selected by Wind for transformation of national fixed and wireless network in Italy

Vimercate/Rome, Italy and Paris, June, 27,2013– Italian operator Wind Telecomunicazioni confirms Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU)to extend and transform Wind’s nationwide fibre-optic transport and IP communication networks.

Alcatel-Lucent is providing a network transformation solution that includes long-haul optical transport, mobile backhaul, metro area network (MAN) and IP service edge technology to expand and update Wind’s existing network, as well as introduce advanced services to customers.

The network expansion and upgrade will help Wind to meet the growing demand for ultra-fast broadband services as smartphones and other broadband mobile devices continue to be adopted while offering advanced services to the operator’s business and residential customers.

Alcatel-Lucent’s solution:

Alcatel-Lucent’s 100 gigabit per second (100G) fiber optic technology features the 1830 Photonic Service Switch with the 400G Photonic Service Engine for the converged long-haul transport of both fixed and mobile traffic, helping address the booming demand for high-bandwidth data services such as high-definition video streaming, next-generation mobile broadband applications and cloud services.

Application of the Alcatel-Lucent 1850 Transport Service Switch to extend Wind’s mobile backhaul infrastructure in support of mobile broadband services.

Alcatel-Lucent’s 7750 Service Router for aggregating traffic in the metro areas and as the IP service edge for delivering advanced, high-speed residential services and business services, such as VPN over IP and Internet access.
