Zero Touch Congress

Pragmatism not dogmatism

Mark Gibson, Co-Chair, Application Committee, MEF & Director of Product Management, Amdocs OSS, Amdocs

In part II: What’s the progress on SD-WAN with the MEF? Martyn asks Mark Gibson, who explains that SD-WAN services have emerged as almost a completely new stack. In other words, it was living outside existing orchestration environment, so the MEF is building it back in - unpacking the silo, if you like - so that SD-WAN vendors and users can interoperate. Mark also believes that properly applied AI should be designed to do the easy stuff, not the hard. That way it can be targeted to take away the drudge while real people can better their jobs and their usefulness.
He says Amdocs is now joining its traditional ‘planning for CSPs’ functions with its recently-released automated assurance offering which is designed to break down the internal walls between operations and fulfillment. Thus Zero Touch Automation is about normalisation between the network and its operations and that requires a pragmatic, rather than dogmatic, approach.
