Phil McKinney, President and CEO, CableLabs

Think CableLabs was only concerned with the development of fixed-line cable networks? Think again. US-based CableLabs is working with operators around the world to test and trial wireless technologies and their implications It was CableLabs, for instance, that first highlighted the interference and coexistence issues in using cellular in unlicensed band (LTE-U) and caused the FCC to take a closer look. It also plays a lead role in identity management, which will become increasingly important with IoT. As the industry accelerates its development of existing 4G technologies and moves towards 5G, CableLabs is set to play a much larger and visible role than before.
