APEJ spending on Robotics will grow at 31.4% annually to reach $133.2 billion in 2021, according to IDC

SINGAPORE, March 13th, 2018: According to the newly updated IDC Worldwide Semiannual Robotics and Drones Spending Guide, Asia Pacific (Excluding Japan) spending on robotics (including drones) and related services is forecast to reach $133.2 billion in 2021, with a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 31.4% from 2017 through 2021. APEJ is the largest market for robotics applications and will account for more than 60% of world's total robotics market in 2021.

"We continue to see strong demands for advanced robotic solutions, especially industrial robots, primarily driven by national initiatives aimed at upgrading and transforming manufacturing and related industries," said Dr. Jing Bing Zhang, research director, Robotics at IDC Manufacturing Insights. "The demand is also shifting towards robots that are intelligent, collaborative, mobile, and easy to deploy. Vendors who are able to meet such demands can expect to see a stronger growth of their business in the APEJ market."

China takes a significant share of the Asia Pacific robotics (including drones) market. Its spending on robotics is expected to reach $74.6 billion, representing 56% of APEJ region's total spending on robotics, drones and related services in 2021.

From an industry sector perspective, the manufacturing and resources sector, which includes discrete manufacturing, process manufacturing, resources and construction, remains the largest spender on robotics (including drones) throughout the forecast period, and is expected to account for over 72% of APEJ total spending in 2021. This is followed by the public sector, which will chalk up approximately 11% of the APEJ total spending in 2021.

From a technology perspective, APEJ spending on robotic (including drones) systems which includes industrial, service and consumer robots and after-market robotic hardware, is forecast to grow to $83.3 billion in 2021.

The Worldwide Semiannual Robotics and Drones Spending Guide quantifies the robotics and drone opportunities from a region, industry, use case, and technology perspective. Spending data is available for more than 60 use cases across 20 industries in eight regions. Data is also available for 17 robotics systems technologies and 16 drone systems technologies. Unlike any other research in the industry, the detailed segmentation and timely, global data is designed to help suppliers targeting the market to identify market opportunities and execute an effective strategy.
