The concept of open goes beyond just standards interoperability. Often the software and interfaces remain either proprietary or optimised by the individual vendor and are tied to the underlying hardware layer by the same vendor. Parallel Wireless has developed a solution that it is open within the RAN, with the interfaces and operating software. By disaggregating hardware and software, the platform helps MNOs to expand and modernise their legacy networks to support subscribers on all generations of cellular technologies, while being able to software upgrade their networks to 5G using the same solution components.
