Don Clarke, Chair, Network Operator Council, ETSI NFV ISG

The new frontier for CSPs is the network edge, and the resulting opportunities to support low latency services through hyper scaled Edge Computing. Yet the edge is a vast space, with plenty of players already claiming a stake, so what is the most likely role of CSPs? There’s growing recognition of the need to scale, of adopting Hyperscale infrastructure at the Edge, but are CSPs ready for this? As one of the authors of the influential white paper on NFV published in October 2012, Don Clarke also discusses the role of NFV at the network edge, but he also calls on the industry to speed up the rate of transformation change and for CSPs to better integrate IT and networking resources.
