Mikko Sipila, HPE (00:02):
Welcome Aji. It's a great honor to have you here and I'm happy really to serve this presentation with you and we will be talking about the HPE and Nokia Cloud RAN collaborative solution, which is called HPE Cloud RAN. So our collaboration with Nokia is a very long-term collaboration. So we have been working together in a collaboration for 30 years. Myself, I have been honored to be part of that collaboration for the last 25 years. So even though I'm super young, it's still 25 years of working with nok. It's a owner, owner, owner. So our alliance really is based on the trust and the mutual collaboration. Our technologies, they compliment its other, we come from the IT side of the, and our solution add to cloud while Nokia comes from the telecom part of the world. So our joint solution is really forming the world-class cloud RAN.
Aji Ed, Nokia (01:15):
Yeah. Thank you. Thank you Mikko, thank you for this opportunity and I'm obviously delighted to be here. So I'm running the cloud run for Nokia and how many years since we have been working together? Nokia and HPE
Mikko Sipila, HPE (01:29):
30,
Aji Ed, Nokia (01:29):
They should say it 30, 30, 30 years. Three zero. Great. And I can tell you that from a cloud perspective, we have been working together probably more than four years now, four to five years. And it's an incredible journey that we are doing together. And of course we are complimenting the solutions together because we have this cloud ran expertise from Nokia. I don't know how many of you know what Nokia stands for. Is it mobile phones still? Do you think it's mobile phones? Okay, not anymore, but it's a Nokia infrastructure. It's basically the network infrastructure, what we are providing. So we have the RAN expertise, we have the base band, we have the radios, so that we provide running on top of the HPE infrastructure. That's what we do. So this is exactly where we are working together as one team to bring the products together to our customers.
(02:28):
So if you look at some drivers for cloud ran, I think there are multiple, I would say if I look at it from all different perspectives, one is coming from an IT cloud transformation. IT is moving over to the entire telco cloud network. That's one driver and is of course there is an angle of network operation savings, what you get from automation. So this is another piece which will come on top of it and there are possibilities of running multiple workloads on the same infrastructure and getting into a new business model, new operations model with a new enterprise business for our customers like operators. So there are multiple different reasons why customers, operators are going into the clarification because this is the future and this will evolve from now to the next years to come.
Mikko Sipila, HPE (03:28):
So what do we bring to the market jointly? So one of the great benefits of us working together in the background and testing and validating the whole solution for the operators is really time to market. So operators will have a pre-integrated ready-made solution which they can easily deploy on their networks. So that's really something which is very important in our collaboration I feel.
Aji Ed, Nokia (03:55):
Yeah, of course. And what we strongly believe, if you look at the existing networks, what we have, it's all built now with the high performing highly energy efficient, cost efficient network for if you look at any customers, any operators in the world, and this is what we call it as a brownfield network, meaning which is already there, which is running, and you need to have the same performance and same features running on the cloud infrastructure as well when we introduce cloud into the network. So that's where the performance and feature parity is very critical and that's where we focus completely on. And last two, three years we've been working together to bring it and I can now proudly say we have the commercial solutions available since end of last year and we have been deploying with the multiple customers. So it brings multiple seamless integration of the existing network to the new cloud infrastructure seamlessly with our man network management and using the cloud infrastructure from HPE.
(04:57):
So how does it work? When we launched, I don't know if how many of you know this any run concept, what we launched a couple of years ago. The idea is we bring the ecosystem together, we work with our partners to really bring the entire solution as a package. So this is where our earlier run, we started working with the HPE and we built the products together at the engineering level and working on top of the different CAS platforms and making sure that it works with all the features required for a network to run. So this is what we built it in a different vertical stack. What if we look at it and this is what we have now with them HPE as a part of our reference design. So reference design for cloud run HPE with the CAS providers coming from the Red Hat and Nokia cloud run software together with our Nokia radios on top of it. So it's a completely pre-integrated, fully available solutions for our customers.
Mikko Sipila, HPE (06:03):
So let's talk a little bit about the underlying platform. So HPDL 1 10 11 is run a optimized platform. So it's a shallow data, it fits to the telecom run network edge data center. It's ruggedized, very dense, it passes all the requirement, what comes to the NS three and other telco requirements. So it's actually, it's the densest far edge server there is on the market. But that's one thing, the performance, another thing is the sustainability, which is very important because first it's good for the planet but it's also good for your pocket. So it has very low power consumption. We have done a unique terminal optimization for the cooling of that platform to really make it work smoothly with Nokia solution. We have ability to manage the Nokia smart trick, which is integrated part of our offering with our HPI law so we can bring it down when there is a low power, there is low traffic season to save energy. Also the TCO point of view, the inline accelerator really brings the better capacity powerization because it's optimal place to run the L one traffic and all, as you said, preintegrated tested jointly by h, HP and Nokia.
Aji Ed, Nokia (07:32):
Yeah, so as I mentioned, so we have been working with many operators, customers across the world and this is just in one example how we deployed cloud run solution together with the existing network. And I can clearly say that the performance and the KPIs that we get from the network is on par with the existing network performance, which is important. As I said, it's a brownfield network we need to introduce with the right performance there. So this is et ian ET from Middle East and Africa market and this is with together with the HPE DL one 10 running on top of the red Hat with Nokia cloud run software. And this is a good proof point that we can really bring this cloud as a reality. So that's what we say move to cloud with confidence that we are able to bring that kind of a confidence to our customers.
Mikko Sipila, HPE (08:32):
So maybe a couple of words about
Aji Ed, Nokia (08:34):
The future. Yeah, exactly. So as I mentioned, we built this Eran ecosystem, we have this reference, different configurations, but at the same time we are extending this, especially if you look at the, let's say the cast players. We are working with Red Hat for sure, but at the same time we are also extending that with other CAS platforms like Wintry World and there are some more which we are working together. So this gives the flexibility to our operators open different options for deploying the cloud because what we have seen in the last couple of years experience is there is no one solution fits all. So different customers have different requirements from a cloud perspective. We need to manage all of them. So this is how we see from any run ecosystem that we have deliberately selected the partners now to move beyond the reference configuration and we are moving beyond that then how many of you haven't heard about AI run? You didn't hear about it. You need to get a chocolate actually.
(09:39):
All right, so this is the talk of the town because it's about AI and run converging together because it's all about AI because we are talking about AI use cases, but this is the AI Run Alliance which was launched last year and now we are extending, we are working closely with HPE and Nokia together to extend our cloudification journey to include AI into the midst. And this is what we will do because this is the future that we see it is for next few years to come, how the AI would come onto the different compute on the edge architecture, different edge cell sites and so on. So this is how we will do it and this is how we are partnering with HPE on it.
Mikko Sipila, HPE (10:25):
Thank you Aji. And to summarize,
Aji Ed, Nokia (10:29):
Yeah, to summarize, as I said, we are not just talking about any slides anymore. I don't want to talk about any slides because it's all in action in the field with the customers and we are going for commercial deployment and that's where we are partner, we are close collaborations with HPE and Nokia with other partners as well that we are getting into the actions and it is really going in full swing. So looking forward to the continued collaboration with HPE and we are extremely delighted to be partnering with HPE.
Mikko Sipila, HPE (11:02):
Likewise, thank you for coming here. Maybe kind of a little action for the crowd here so we have an open run in action stand over there. So please go and visit in the same way Nokia has a similar presentation at this booth, which is at the other end of
Aji Ed, Nokia (11:24):
It says right over there. So please, you're welcome to come and see the Nokia booth as well. It's a lot of stuff around cloud AI run and a lot of new areas, a lot of autonomous operations automation topics. So please welcome, I welcome you, all of you to Nokia booth.
Mikko Sipila, HPE (11:43):
Oh, thank you very much for coming. And I think what we all need to remember is that Cloud RAN is commercially available today. Yes, thank you.
