Nokia's GPON technology to power world-class broadband experience for subscribers of India's GTPL Hathway

Via Nokia

Nov 1, 2018

  • Nokia's Gigabit Passive Optical Networking (GPON) technology will be used by GTPL to modernize its end-to-end network to meet the growing need of ultra high-speed broadband needs of its customers

01/11/2018 - New Delhi, India: GTPL, one of India's leading Cable TV and broadband service providers, will deploy Nokia's fixed access and core technology to upgrade and modernize its network. Nokia's solutions will replace GTPL's legacy Ethernet-based access network with fiber capable of supporting ultra-broadband speeds that provide a faster, superior internet experience to subscribers. Further, GTPL will utilize Nokia Broadband Network Gateway (BNG) solutions for reliable ultra broadband access in residential areas. GTPL customers will enjoy high bandwidth applications without experiencing any network congestion or glitches.

Under the agreement, GTPL will use Nokia's GPON technology, along with currently deployed next-generation Nokia BNGs, to enhance existing service speeds and deliver new ultra-broadband services including high speed internet, Linear TV and Video-on-Demand (VoD) services. The Nokia 7750 Service Router BNG supports Carrier Grade NAT (CGNAT) and Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) functions for delivery of advanced service capabilities, allowing GTPL to differentiate its service offering and play a key role in enhancing residential broadband services. Nokia's GPON equipment will be deployed across various cities in the Gujarat state by the end of this year. GTPL is the largest Multiple System Operator (MSO) in Gujarat in Western India, with 67% share of the Cable TV market, and this fiber-enhanced access network upgrade will further enable the company to expand its market share.

Anirudh Jadeja, Managing Director at GTPL Hathway Ltd, said:

”India is recording a massive increase in broadband consumption, and as people begin using digital platforms to complete a number of day-to-day tasks they will demand an even better broadband network. We believe our partnership with Nokia is crucial to our growth. The modernized network will allow us to provide a world-class broadband experience to our subscribers. It is also in keeping with the Indian government's drive to promote the use of the digital platform as part of its Digital India vision."

Vinish Bawa, head of emerging business at Nokia, said:

”We are delighted to work with GTPL to transform its networks to deliver an improved network experience for its subscribers. This deployment will enable GTPL to meet fast-growing demand for a better and faster network experience. Our technology solutions will allow GTPL to differentiate itself from other market players to attract more customers."
