OpenStack was originally designed for enterprise requirements and while progress has and is being made to make it capable of doing its job to provide ‘telco-grade’ service there’s, still work to be done. “Plain, vanilla OpenStack  does not meet the needs of telcos,” Charlie tells Martyn Warwick. In fact Wind River has already developed a line of virtual server software with its Titanium range which makes up the OpenStack deficit, he says. It has applied ‘patches’ to OpenStack to enable efficient integration and these have been ‘upstreamed’ into the open source communities.
