“We’re focussing on open infrastructure which is key for the Edge,” says ldiko Vancsa. Because of all the potential stakeholders, she says, you need an underlying effort to bring all the open source components together and then contribute to filling the gaps.

The foundation has a range of Edge activities, but when you collect all the use cases you find there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution and that there are parts overlapping.

“So from the use cases and requirements we can identify options. Then, instead of saying that we will give you one package that will magically solve all your problems, we offer architectural suggestions.”

We don’t want to reinvent the wheel, she says. Rather, the objective is to identify the gaps and see what we could do by enhancing what we have rather than throwing out existing work and starting from scratch."
