Marc Cohn, Vice President, Network Strategy, The Linux Foundation
As Marc Cohn explains, NFV orchestration is about much more than just provisioning and managing virtual features, such as firewalls or load balancers. NFV orchestration must address the entire service-chaining process. Given that need it is surprising there is such a lack of consistency in how vendors define "orchestration". What's more, there's a major disconnect between the formal notion of orchestration for NFV and what operators actually need to meet their virtualisation goals. It is a disconnect must be addressed if the NFV is to be successfully deployed in CSP network. To help, the Linux Foundation has announced OPEN-O, a global, industry-wide initiative to advance agile networking operations in NFV and SDN.
