Dave Ward. CTO Engineering and Chief Architect. Cisco.

SDN and NFV may be the hottest hot subjects under the telecoms sun right now, but MPLS, a venerable, solid, tried and tested technology is still very important and, as Dave Ward explains, has a vital role as service providers transition to SDN. Meanwhile, the multiplicity of ecosystems that are emerging and evolving around transformation technologies such as SDN and NFV are beginning to give service providers cause for concern as they struggle to differentiate and choose between what are being presented as alternative ecosystems but which, on closer investigation, turn out to be populated by the same manufacturers and vendors as many other ecosystems. Finally, Dave Ward explains that data analytics and machine learning will be key to the wide-scale introduction of commercial NFV networks that he expects to be deployed and in use by 2017 and 2018.
