Dr Joe McGilligan, GP, LGA Health and Wellbeing Champion

“I believe in prevention and doing things properly to prevent people getting ill rather than waiting until they’re ill and then trying to fix them - we can use the technology and it’s actually a very simple thing to do,” Joe tells Ian Scales. “Every patient already has a bed and it’s at home - we don’t need a hospital for beds. And we can already predict who’s going to become unwell just by looking at their data,” he maintains, “but we’re just not using it.” Joe says the trend for patients to assemble their own data is driving things. “They all come in with their Fitbits and their Google searches and their monitoring devices. What we should be doing is helping them to interpret that data,” he maintains.
