Marc Cohn, Senior Vice President, Marketing ClearPath Networks
With the main emphasis of NFV being firmly on telecoms, most vendors are, naturally enough, focusing on providing solutions for network operators. However, there are companies working to provide virtualisation solutions in important ancillary areas such as customer premises equipment (CPE). For small and medium-sized enterprises seeking simplification and improved time to deployment virtualised CPE will be a major improvement. Of course, as Mark Cohn explains, not everything can be virtualised and moved out of an SME's premises into the cloud, but a lot of it can be. If the challenge of scalability can be surmounted the virtual CPE will quickly be a major new market segment.
