There is no issue of greater concern to telcos than data security, which has led to a reluctance to move network operations and management to public cloud-based software-as-a-service (SaaS) models. But as cost savings, speed and business agility increasingly become competitive must-haves, telcos now need to seize the full benefits of SaaS. Nokia and AWS discussed Telecom SaaS security in detail and examined how AWS public cloud and Nokia’s Telecom SaaS deal with adhering to compliance regulations in the areas of data sovereignty and resiliency.

Philip Blanchar
Sr. Director SaaS Delivery & SRE Operations - Cloud & Network Services, Nokia
Philip is a senior leader with over 15 years of experience in SaaS technical delivery and operations. He has a proven track record of leading cross-functional teams to design and deploy processes, tools and technologies that provide the foundation for extremely resilient maintenance and operations for SaaS software and mixed-model managed services. He has vast experience with multiple delivery models deployed on bare metal and public/private cloud hyperscalers. He’s built and led operations capability meeting aggressive service availability, security, compliance and quality requirements.
Philip is currently Sr. Director of SaaS Technical delivery and Operations at Nokia leading SaaS DevOps and SaaS Site Reliability Engineering. Prior to that he led similar functions at SaaS companies like Planview and Aurea and some public sector including Texas.gov.
Philip holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from San Jose State University, and a Master’s in Comp Sci from CSU Chico. Philip is known for his ability to lead, inspire and motivate teams to deliver results and build scalable, sustainable systems.
Kal Krishnan
Telecom Industry Specialist, AWS Security
Kal Krishnan is a telecom industry specialist with AWS Security. Since 2019, he leads a global program focused on helping AWS’s telecom customers achieve their security and compliance goals on their cloud journey. He has over 25 years of experience working on multiple generations of mobile network technologies. Prior to joining AWS, he was a Technical Fellow in the field of emergency calling and wireless location.
