Janne Koistinen, Director, 5G Programme, Telia Finland

Telia Finland started its 5G journey around three years ago, knowing that 5G technology would continue to evolve and improve over time. It quickly came to the decision that it would be better to focus on what the technology can do right now, rather than keep on waiting the next releases of the 5G standard that would eventually deliver the full promise of 5G. Telia Finland has built on its long-standing relationship with Nokia to deploy 5G, to fully utilise the potential of technology at hand, focusing on use cases that it can deliver today.

Telia Finland is concentrating on supporting three tracks of 5G use cases. The first is mobile broadband evolution, continuing the evolution from 3G to 4G and now 5G. The second is fixed wireless access, with home and office broadband connections delivered by wireless technologies. The third use case is the digitalization of industries, and this is where the service provider is looking to create new business opportunities from 5G. It has commenced commercial roll out and the early feedback it has received from customers has been very positive.
