- Wi-Fi Calling will expand the mobile communications network to places without sufficient network coverage
- Calls can be made without the need for additional apps
- Billed as domestic calls on the customer's mobile phone bill
Making cell phone calls with no mobile communications network: Deutsche Telekom and its partner Samsung will show how this is possible on the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge at CeBIT 2016. With Wi-Fi Calling, users can make mobile calls via Wi-Fi, even in places where there is no mobile coverage. Typical places for this might be underground parking lots, basements, and buildings with poor reception. All Wi-Fi access points and public HotSpots can be used to make calls.
Wi-Fi Calling will be available in the future as a free add-on option. All the user needs is a Deutsche Telekom terminal device that is Wi-Fi Calling-enabled. No additional costs are incurred for calls via Wi-Fi. These calls are billed based on the user's mobile rate plan. The service will be integrated into selected devices, with no need to install an additional app. The market launch of Wi-Fi Calling is planned for during this year.
Experience our products and services live at CeBIT from March 14 - 18 at the Deutsche Telekom stand in hall 4, stand C38. Deutsche Telekom's entire presence at the trade fair is carbon-neutral: All CO2 emissions generated in setting up and operating the stand are offset fully by carbon-reduction projects abroad.
