The old telecoms model is falling off a cliff as voice becomes a feature, says Richard Arthur, Solution Enablement Office of the CTO, HP Communications and Media. But he points out, operators have a huge number of assets they can make use of in three main areas. Network connectivity will always be required; telcos' information and financial capabilities (big customer data and the billing capability to expoit it) could launch them into new areas; and thirdly they can use their assets to become new value added service providers.
