Enrique Blanco Nadales, CTIO, Systems and Network Global Director, Telefónica

The pace of network transformation is too slow. That was the message given by Enrique Blanco of Telefónica during his keynote at the TIP Summit, calling for the industry to accelerate its transformation efforts and that we should – and could – move faster. We cannot afford to take a conservative approach and simply wait for the sector to mature. He argues that the existing strategic plans and goals for telcos need to be changed and that we need to start a new journey, pushing to build new enabling technology and methodologies, so that we can build the efficient and dynamic networks that customers are demanding. All of this will be difficult and it will not be without pain, but it needs to be done – and it needs the support of the wider ecosystem, including new entrants as well as the established vendors. Quite simply, we need to speed up.
