Metaswitch brings first cloud native IMS solution to market with Hewlett Packard Enterprise

Virtualization leaders offer carriers an accelerated path to deploy innovative business and consumer communication services with a pre-integrated IMS solution on HPE’s Helion OpenStack platform

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM – October 10, 2016 – Cloud native communications software leader Metaswitch today announced the integration of its virtualized IP Multimedia Subsystem (vIMS) solution with Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s (HPE) Helion OpenStack Carrier Grade and NFV Director orchestration platform. The combined solution accelerates fixed and mobile network operators’ deployments of advanced services including VoLTE on private, public or hybrid cloud infrastructures. With this integration, Metaswitch becomes the first Independent Software Vendor (ISV) to complete all levels of validation in the HPE OpenNFV Partner Program.

“The integration of Metaswitch IMS and HPE Helion enables CSPs to take full advantage of breakthrough cloud economics when bringing advanced voice services to market,” said Brandon Harper, SVP of business development at Metaswitch. “The combined solution builds on our commitment to cloud native software development and furthers our close collaboration with HPE, which stands at the forefront of NFV platform and infrastructure virtualization.”

Benefits of the Metaswitch and HPE integration to carriers include:

  • Speed to market – Cloud native IMS installs in hours, not months, solving the challenge of IMS deployment complexity, without compromising carrier grade performance, reliability, or manageability.
  • Service innovation – Communication service providers (CSPs) can use Metaswitch’s microservices-based, modular software solutions to flexibly evolve existing services and develop new applications without monolithic legacy software limitations and overhead.
  • Elasticity - Truly cloud-native software, allows CSPs to capitalize on the transformation of services like VoLTE, VoWiFi and messaging to NFV, with dynamic on-demand scaling that is more cost effective to plan, operate and support.

Metaswitch’s Cloud Native IMS Core solution includes the Clearwater IMS Core and the Perimeta Session Border Controller (SBC), providing a critical framework to transition communication services to cloud infrastructures. Clearwater is a cloud-native IMS Core built on a microservices architecture and open source framework to support rapid application development. Perimeta is a virtualized SBC that distributes signaling and media functionality across commodity hardware in the cloud. Combined, these products allow the Metaswitch vIMS solution to achieve an unprecedented combination of massive scalability and exceptional cost-efficiency.

“The partnership between Metaswitch and HPE brings together two leaders in NFV delivering a cloud-native IMS solution on HPE Helion OpenStack Carrier Grade that is ready for production IMS deployments,” said Werner Schaefer, vice president and general manager, NFV, HPE. “This integration helps carriers realize the promise of accelerated time-to-market, reduced costs and service agility that stand as core goals of our virtualization initiatives.”
