As artificial intelligence is reshaping the telecommunications landscape, the rise of private cellular networks is similarly transforming enterprise connectivity. And at the forefront of these innovations, Stan's HPE, Aruba Networking, helping Telcos navigate the Evolving Terrain. Phil Mottram of HPE Aruba Networking joins us to explore these industry developments. Phil, thank you very much for being with us today. My pleasure. So Phil, how is AI impacting the telco space and what is HPE doing to help surface providers take advantage of this technology shift?
Phil Mottram, HPE (00:37):
Yeah, sure. So on the AI side, obviously it's a hot topic right now and we are talking to telco operators here at MWC. About two sides of the coin really. One is how can they use AI to help improve their processes, their business, find more efficiencies? And in support of that, we have a solution in HPE called PC ai, which is private cloud ai and it allows customers to set up an AI service in three clicks. So it's really easy to use. So that's one side of the coin. And then on the other side of the coin, we're talking to some telcos about how they could use AI to generate revenues. And what we mean by that is building an AI cloud for the telco for them to sell AI services to their customers. And they might be public sector customers or customers where they need a lot of network or they want to be close to the network, like autonomous vehicle companies. So that's what we're talking to companies here in MWC about ai.
Clarence Reynolds, TelecomTV (01:41):
And what about AIOps?
Phil Mottram, HPE (01:43):
Yeah, AIOps is a big thing. How can customers use AIOps in our platform to manage their networks? I run HPE Aruba networking. We have a platform called Aruba Central. And Aruba Central is an AI platform that's super smart and allows customers to manage their networks. One example of the things it does, it will look at the usage on access points. Let's say you've got a building, I know it's got a hundred access points in it every Friday at two o'clock, 80 of them aren't being used, but 20 are, it will recommend, Hey look these 80, why don't we put them into a deep sleep mode to reduce power consumption and help the environment. So that's one example of how AI ops is helping customers manage their networks in a better way.
Clarence Reynolds, TelecomTV (02:34):
What kind of trends are you seeing around private cellular networks?
Phil Mottram, HPE (02:38):
Private cellular networks is a really big thing for HB. Aruba networking. We bought a company called Appnet about 18 months ago, and they're the leading provider of private 5G. So we're seeing big take up in military. So people are modernizing air force base, army bases. We're seeing take up in warehouses, ports, mines anywhere where outdoor space is important or speed. So yeah, lots to take up around private 5G.
Clarence Reynolds, TelecomTV (03:08):
So I'm going to ask you to use your imagination. What do you expect to see between now and next year's MWC as it relates to private networks?
Phil Mottram, HPE (03:18):
So I think with private cellular, look, we are trying to make it as easy to sell and consume as wifi, same contract, same support, experience, just make it really simple and we think that will really help the take up. So I think a year from now we'll be seeing way more use cases and example, so where customers getting benefits from private 5G.
Clarence Reynolds, TelecomTV (03:37):
So what else are you introducing at this year's show?
Phil Mottram, HPE (03:40):
So we're also talking about how we can help operators make money and they can make more money by selling our services to their customers. So we're talking about a big partnership that we've got with T-Mobile who are taking Aruba products and selling them to their small business customers. Who're really excited about that announcement as well.
Clarence Reynolds, TelecomTV (03:59):
Phil, thank you very much for being here today.
Phil Mottram, HPE (04:02):
Great, thank you.
