Sean McManus, TelecomTV (00:07):
Hello, I'm Sean McManus from Telecom TV and I'm delighted to be joined now by Robin Harne, who is the head of Telecom Industry solutions at AWS and Manish, who is the principal product manager for AWS IOT. Thank you both for joining me.
Manish Talreja, AWS (00:23):
Thank you for having us.
Sean McManus, TelecomTV (00:25):
Manish, tell us what you're announcing at Mobile World Congress.
Manish Talreja, AWS (00:28):
Sure. Today we are announcing a new feature called Managed Integrations. This is going to be a part of AWS iot Device Management. This helps you simplify control and management of a diverse set of devices regardless of the manufacturer or the connectivity protocol that exists in any kind of an environment.
Sean McManus, TelecomTV (00:45):
And what's the benefits of that?
Manish Talreja, AWS (00:47):
Today we're launching few capabilities as part of managed integrations. One of them is Unified Control. Unified Control helps you control a diverse set of devices from different manufacturers using a single interface and provides you with ability to create a single application. In addition, we're launching simplified Setup, which is a new capability that lets you onboard devices using various techniques including barcode scanning and manual pairing using the same application that you built to control all the devices.
Sean McManus, TelecomTV (01:17):
Robin, tell us why managed integrations are valuable for Telco.
Robin Harwani, AWS (01:20):
Absolutely. Customers globally that we have been working with have been looking at different offerings within the consumer space that they can offer on top of connectivity, whether it is fixed wireless access differentiation that they're trying to create, or fixed connections or fixed broadband that they've had for many years with fiber solutions. In this regard, consumers are expecting more value from the telecom operators as well, whether it is improved home security, things like lifestyle and convenience capabilities, offerings within better energy management and things that they can get in terms of new ongoing value on the same platform. The unique right to play when we think about global operators is they already have a home gateway that offers the services fixed wireless access or fixed broadband to these consumers, millions of them. And as part of that, when we look at the managed integration feature set that we are launching that allows for these experiences across devices, makes manufacturers protocols to be availed and stitched together very, very quickly. That is what customers, telecom customers globally have been asking for from us.
Sean McManus, TelecomTV (02:40):
Manish, tell us about how managed integrations help telcos to develop IOT solutions.
Manish Talreja, AWS (02:46):
Sure. As Robin mentioned, there are a diverse set of devices in a home that telcos have, and what we're offering today is ability for you to control different kinds of devices that are in a home, whether they're connected directly to us, they're connected through a hub through the protocols that we discussed earlier, or they're connected through a third party cloud. We offer you a set of 80 plus templates that help you simplify development of control of these devices. In addition to that, we have a catalog of multiple cloud to cloud connectors that help you onboard these third party cloud devices and then control them using the same interface.
Sean McManus, TelecomTV (03:24):
Robin, do you have an example of a customer you're working with on this?
Robin Harwani, AWS (03:27):
Oh, yeah. Meaning Telus has been a leading customer that we have worked with over the last three years and they are live now in Canada supporting customers and in terms of capabilities across home security, lifestyle, and convenience, they're working on different capabilities they're launching within energy management with us using the same managed integration feature set. That is where it brings value to them. With the solutions they have been able to launch, they're able to add between six and $30 per month per home that they're servicing on top of the connectivity business. And that makes it great win for them as well as a great experience for their consumers, which is where it's a win-win for the partnership.
Sean McManus, TelecomTV (04:15):
Manish and Robin, thank you very much.
Robin Harwani, AWS (04:17):
Thank you for having us.
Manish Talreja, AWS (04:18):
