Operators, carriers and communications services providers are coming to the realisation that existing operational support systems (OSS) will not necessarily be fit-for-purpose in the transformed and virtualised network of tomorrow. SDN and NFV will not be able to achieve their potential value until OSS and BSS systems are aligned with the new technologies. So, while it is all well and good that services may be spun-up or torn down very quickly,  until provisioning, configuration, billing and fault management are automated, dynamic and intelligent, SDN and NFV cannot fully be exploited.
