Singtel collaborates with Twilio to extend IoT reach to app developers

Partnership will accelerate IoT adoption across Singapore and the Asia Pacific region

Singapore, 21 March 2018 - Singtel today announced that it will collaborate with Twilio, a leading cloud communications platform, to jointly develop an Internet of Things (IoT) platform that will make IoT more accessible to software developers and accelerate the adoption of IoT solutions in Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region.

The partnership will leverage Singtel’s IoT network in Singapore and Twilio’s Programmable Wireless product to enable developers to manage the cellular connectivity of their connected device over a set of application programming interfaces (APIs). Under this partnership, developers and enterprises can also use Singtel IoT solutions for connectivity, network security, device management and advanced analytics.

“We are excited to work with Twilio on bringing app developers directly onto the Singtel IoT ecosystem,” said Mr Diomedes Kastanis, Head of IoT at Singtel. “This partnership with Twilio, will create a one-stop shop to accelerate the adoption of IoT solutions and help enterprises create exciting new products and services.”

Singtel has been exploring various IoT use cases with local and overseas companies across a diverse range of applications, including environmental sensing, asset tracking, waste management and monitoring of medicine consumption. The Singtel Group has presence in Asia, Australia and Africa and reaches over 685 million mobile customers in 22 countries.

Twilio is a cloud communications platform that is used by millions of developers globally to build innovative, business-critical communication applications. By virtualising the world’s telecommunications infrastructure through APIs, Twilio makes communications channels accessible to the world’s developers. Twilio announced Twilio Programmable Wireless in 2016 to make it easy for developers to programme cellular connectivity and begin innovating in the IoT space.

“The IoT market is at an exciting stage of development right now and has the potential to scale quickly across the Asia Pacific region,” said Mr Chetan Chaudhary, Head of IoT at Twilio. “Twilio believes that the future of IoT and connected devices will be driven by software developers and we look forward to partnering with Singtel to provide developers the confidence to deploy innovative IoT use-cases on Twilio.”
