A smart city stands on a desire for collaborative mobilization of citizens, local authorities and businesses around sustainable integrated urban projects that use new technologies and innovation for people to seek answers to the problems currently affecting the city: climate change, mobility, resource scarcity, economic inequalities and social exclusion.
Under this context, was held in Lisbon the Conference "SMART CITIES - FUTURE CITIES “, promoted by Lisboa E-Nova and sponsored by PT Inovação.
In its third edition, the conference aimed to emphasize the economic competitiveness of cities, integrating issues related to innovation and entrepreneurship and also the demonstration of innovative European projects with great potential for energetic and environmental applicability and impact on cities.
Filipe Cabral Pinto, from PT Inovação and Francisco Gonçalves, from Lisboa E- Nova, presented BESOS, a project funded by the European Community that aims the development of an Open Trustworthy Energy Service Platform that will allow proprietary EMSs (Energy Management Systems) within a smart city to share data and services. Stakeholders will be able to access and interface the existing infrastructures in smart cities, not only to analyze in real-time the data from such systems but also to implement common strategies enforcing energy efficiency.
This project evolves PT Inovação IoT platform with real users in experimental versions and is currently on a trial version in Lisbon and Barcelona enabling the energy management of several public buildings.
BESOS - Building Energy decision Support systems for Smart Cities is being developed by a Consortium of 10 partners which includes PT Inovação and Lisboa E-Nova.
The event was attended by a diverse audience of decision makers, members of government, entrepreneurs, technicians and experts in the fields of energy, environment and telecommunications, students and other participants interested in smart cities.
After the conference, all participants were invited to visit PT Showroom where were displayed PT solutions for smart cities, including PT Inovação SmartAL integrated with UCN project. UCN introduces the concept of User-Centric Networking, a new paradigm leveraging user information at large to deliver novel content recommendation systems and content delivery frameworks. UCN recommendation and content delivery systems will leverage in-depth knowledge about users to help them find relevant content, identify nearby network resources and plan how to deliver the actual content to the appropriate device at the desired time.
Also, in the showroom, participants were able to attend a demonstration of the project BESOS.
