DPDK accelerates the processing of pockets for high-throughput applications. Typically Linux has problems with handing faster line cards and their associated speeds. The industry now needs to deal with far more than 6m packets per second that is the effective limit with Linux. With 40G and 100G network cards coming out ion the near future, this need to process at ever higher speeds becomes critical.
