Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) is to supply its powerful IP routing technology – including the 7950 XRS IP Core Router and 7750 Service Router - to China Telecom, allowing it to expand its 4G LTE ultra-broadband wireless network and meet booming customer demand.

China is the wireless broadband market leader¹ , and is expected to account for nearly a third of global 4G LTE subscriptions by 2019² . To do so, China Telecom has turned to Alcatel-Lucent to ensure that its IP network has the scalability and flexibility to manage the future growth in data traffic, allowing it to deliver high-quality 4G LTE services, even as it expands its network further.

Alcatel-Lucent will apply its leading core and edge routing technologies in the deployment with China Telecom. The 7950 XRS, already in use in Jiangsu province and Shanghai, will manage the increasing traffic in the urban data centers of Beijing – China’s capital city and one of the world’s most populous cities - as well as the financial hub of Guangzhou. Alcatel-Lucent’s 7750 Service Router will be deployed across seven major provinces.

All deployments will be completed in preparation for service in China Telecom’s network in December.

Key Facts :

• In October 2014 Alcatel-Lucent announced the deployment of its 7950 XRS IP Core Router to China Telecom in the Jiangsu province and city of Shanghai. This latest announcement expands on that deployment, with Alcatel-Lucent now providing 25 percent of China Telecom’s new build core routing network capabilities under this contract, including support for all data center interconnections in Beijing and Guangzhou.
• Alcatel-Lucent is also providing 15 percent of China Telecom’s new-build edge routing capabilities under this contract, including the deployment of its 7750 SR portfolio across seven major provinces to aggregate traffic at the metro network edge.
• Deployment of Alcatel-Lucent’s IP Routing portfolio, including the 7950 XRS and 7750 Service Routers will help China Telecom to build a high-performance IP network that will support the expansion of 4G LTE services with a superior quality of service.
• Alcatel-Lucent’s 7950 XRS portfolio delivers class-leading scale, efficiency and versatility to address a wide range of networking requirements. 50 customers have chosen to deploy the 7950 XRS to-date.
