David Formisano, Director of Strategies, IoT, Intel Corporation

What’s Intel doing to support the Internet of Things (IoT)? Martyn Warwick talks to David Formisano at Intel’s recent Intel Developer Forum (IDF) who lays out the company’s approach.

Intel is offering multiple developer kits to meet a wide range of needs from the maker/hobbyist right up to the largest cloud-based projects, with a suite of products including gateways to serve as aggregation points and for entry into the network.

The market is very broad in its technological scope so partnerships are important. Intel is working with companies like AT&T, GE, Cisco and IBM as well as a multitude of smaller partners and of course individual developers, many of whom were gathered at the IDF. IoT demonstrations included the ‘connected beer keg’, widespread deployment of which should eventually see an end to availability issues of the “Sorry, Old Speckled Hen’s run out” sort.
