Jørgen Abild Andersen, Chairman, Digital Economy Policy Committee, OECD

We are well used to hearing about the technical potential of 5G, but what about the social and economic benefits? How will 5G fit with the broader digital economy requirements that are being advocated by the European Union? With poor levels of innovation, low growth rates and high unemployment, how will a digital strategy address and help correct these factors and what exactly needs to be done? Whilst politicians from all parties appear to agree that broadband to everybody and full mobile coverage is what counts, just how committed are they to helping make this vision into reality? 5G is a technology game-changer, but it also has the potential to benefit the economy and society.
