Telia: 'More Digital' comes to Norway

Telia Norway is taking on a major role in reaching the Norweigian national targets for broadband development and digitalization. In a pilot project, Telia Norway will provide training and guidance to citizens above age 65 to make their lives not only easier, but perhaps more enjoyable too.

More Digital has been a succes in Sweden already. The initiative won The European Broadband Awards in 2018 and was named "Digitalization Project of the Year" during the 2019 Swedish Telecom Awards.

The first Norwegian county to run the project will be the municipalities of Grue, Kongsvinger and Eidskog. One workshop will be set up in each of the three municipalities.

The goal of the workshops is to show seniors how they can benefit from using digital tools in their everyday lives. It might be looking for information on the internet, creating an email account, initiating a video call or learning more about social media. The tutors are youth from the municipalities, as well as employees from Telia Norway.

"We want to prevent and reduce digital exclusion and to inspire positivity and curiosity about digitalization," says Abraham Foss, CEO of Telia Norway.

"By spreading knowledge to those who are unfamiliar with digital tools and services, we grow of the digital community and enable more people to use important public e-services, for example in welfare. Furthermore, of course, there is the social dimension. Mastering the Internet and social media makes it easier to stay connected across generations."

The Norweigian Government has ambitious national targets: Norway will be one of the best nations in the world to harvest the opportunities of digitization.
