That's a promise. Kept! For many years Deutsche Telekom could not implement vectoring in regions where network expansion was partly financed with subsidies. Our promise: Deutsche Telekom committed to switching vectoring on in these areas as soon as the restrictions expired, thus boosting broadband speeds to up to 100 Mbit/s (megabit per second) for downloads (minimum: 50 Mbit/s) and 40 Mbit/s for uploads. Now the time has come: Download speeds will be doubling and upload speeds even quadrupling in many regions. Deutsche Telekom has made faster Internet connections possible for over 317,000 households in the last four weeks.

The good news: Local authorities won't pay a penny for these enhanced speeds and local residents won't have to endure construction works. The faster speeds will be achieved by replacing cards in the street cabinets. And Deutsche Telekom will pick up the bill for the retrofitting.

But there's even better news: Deutsche Telekom plans to boost 95 percent of the 100-Mbit/s-households to up to 250 Mbit/s by late 2019. And that won't cost local authorities a penny or mean noisy construction work for local residents, either.

"We are making great progress on expanding broadband in Germany", said Walter Goldenits, Chief Technology Officer at Telekom Deutschland. "And we are now reaping the rewards of all our hard work over the last few years. Every month brings confirmation that we have the right network strategy to catapult Germany into the gigabit age."

Network modernization (IP migration) is also speeding up Internet connections. In the last four weeks, 515,000 households across Germany have benefited from these measures. Consumers in these areas can now benefit from of up to 100 Mbit/s for downloads and 40 Mbit/s for uploads.

But interested customers should note that they will need to be on the right rate plan to use the enhanced bandwidths. They can go to www.telekom.de/schneller (German only) to check if their lines are ready for higher speeds. Or speak to an advisor in a Telekom Shop or specialist outlet, or call the free hotline (0800 330 1000).
