Robin Mersh, CEO, Broadband Forum

Robin Mersh, the CEO of the Broadband Forum, says reality is now nipping hard at the heels of the world's CSPs and driving even the most reluctant of them them through the narrow gateway that should lead on the broad sunlit uplands of network transformation, new services and sparkling fresh revenue streams. The imperative to change is forcing even the most recalcitrant to do something - and that something involves a change of mindset to enable co-operation and partnership with other industry players in ways that would have been unthinkable before cloudification SDN, NFV and 5G. However, apart from a growing determination to transform, many CSPs do not yet know what the the deployment of SDN and NFV technologies will actually mean to and for them - not only in terms of new offerings and services but also in the corporate psychology and future shape of their business.
