Hi, I'm Tony Poulos and I am at TelecomTV's AI Native Telco Forum in Dusseldorf. And with me today, I have Ronen David, who is the head of marketing at AI Solutions at Amdocs, and with him, Ron Porter, who's the head of marketing for network solutions at Amdocs. It's interesting I've got an AI guy and a network guy because we are here talking about becoming an AI network, an AI native network. Let's start with you, Ron, talking about what brings Amdocs to an event like this for a start?
Ronen David, Amdocs (00:38):
I think this is the perfect event to be at because we're looking at the industry and we're going towards agentic transformation. Everyone is talking about it and to experience it here first-hand, all of our customers talking about their ambitions and what they want to achieve, very valuable to us and how we can partner with them and enable part of this transformation.
Tony Poulos, TelecomTV (01:05):
But Ron, you've also come with a bunch of solutions as well. Are you driving the industry or is the industry coming to you with their ideas? How does the relationship work with your telco partners?
Ron Porter, Amdocs Networks (01:16):
So I think as always, again, Amdocs has been in this industry for many years. It's not the first journey we went with our customers, right? So the telecom industry keeps evolving and it has its own requirements, just like the cloud journey that started quite a few years ago and is still ongoing. And connected to what you're saying, we're not just focusing on AI networks, although that's my interest. We started in already deployed AI and agentic AI in areas like billing operations, customer care, getting value there. And part of the journey is now advancing it further to enhancing more complex workflows that drive more value and going to more maybe sensitive areas like the network where you have to be a bit more cautious with the autonomy, et cetera. So it's all about advancing this journey according to the needs of our customers and their limitations and constraints.
Tony Poulos, TelecomTV (02:09):
Well, TelecomTV has started the ANTA initiative and we're talking about the index that's just been released. How do you determine where your customers are and where they need to go? There's got to be a starting point for them. Do they go and do test pilots and co-pilots? How does it work?
Ronen David, Amdocs (02:26):
The starting point is very easy, it is business priority. So a few months ago at MWC, we launched AOS, which is the agentic operating system for telco, having in mind that agentic requires a new mode of operation, the way that our customers are running their business. And each one of our customers, and it's amazing to be part of this journey because each one of our customers has different business priority, what he wants to achieve with AI, where he wants to start, and what journey he's going to take. And the modular structure of AOS, of the agentic operating system we launched allows us to partner with each one of our customers. And in our keynote this morning, Ohad gave different examples of different customers and where we help them to go on this agentic journey. So I think that's the right place to start.
Tony Poulos, TelecomTV (03:31):
Well, of course, all the network operators are trying to make their networks autonomous. Are we going to reach that stage and is AI going to be the driver to get to AI autonomous networks?
Ron Porter, Amdocs Networks (03:42):
So first of all, again, we've had AI in the industry in general and in networks, we've been having it for years, right? Applying it in the use cases where it brings value and where we have enough trust in it. And agentic AI, like everywhere else in our lives is taking it to the next level. But the question of how we can, again, bring it in and find the use cases. I mean, in general across the industry, we know what the North Star looks like. And then I mentioned, like in other journeys that we have, the thing is what do we do in the day-to-day? How do we bring value and ROI to projects and moving from just POCs to things like pilots that go into production, right? So already integrating to real data and bringing value in the day-to-day while accepting the fact we have limitations, we need to stay reliable, we need to stay uptime.
(04:28):
Our customers, we're an infrastructure. Our industry's in basic infrastructure. We have legacy systems. We need to see how we evolve them. So all of this journey is what we're looking at. And I think it's exciting days because we're seeing a dramatic acceleration like we're seeing it anywhere in our lives. And I think ANTA is a good example of a focus to bring the industry knowledge together to accelerate this journey.
Tony Poulos, TelecomTV (04:53):
My last question is a difficult one. Who's driving the move to AI with telcos? Is it coming from the technology base and the network base or is management starting to worry and saying, no guys, you've got to get it going? Who's the driver?
Ronen David, Amdocs (05:07):
I think it's a combination of both because what the technology allows kind of drive management to realise you have to go that way. There's no way you can just not take this into account and not leverage the advantages of the technology. So we see the shareholders of our customers dictating, you need to go more agentic. We need to see how you reduce the operational cost, how you drive more revenue with this technology, and then the advancement of technology kind of make it possible. So it's a combination of both.
Ron Porter, Amdocs Networks (05:50):
I agree. And I think a lot of it is everybody understands the value and the huge potential, even specifically of agentic AI, but I don't think it's so much about, yeah, just use AI. Show me that you're using AI. We understand the value, they want the value. And then the technologists that you mentioned are the ones that are saying, okay, but we need to get the data ready for agents. We need to make it in the right way and then we can get the value. So the business driver is of course very high, but the technology and a lot of the discussions here are about making it real.
Tony Poulos, TelecomTV (06:20):
And I was going to say the discussions here have been all about that, getting the data right first. The procedures, it's not so simple.
Ron Porter, Amdocs Networks (06:26):
Ontology.
Tony Poulos, TelecomTV (06:27):
The ontology came in as well. Ronan, Ron, thanks so much for being with me today. It's been great.
Ron Porter, Amdocs Networks (06:33):
Thanks. Thanks a lot.
