TIM grows in the smart city market and acquires Mindicity

Rome: TIM is focusing on smart cities and strengthening its TIM Urban Genius offer, the solution designed to enable local Authorities to adopt a smart and sustainable city model. The operation stems from an agreement between Olivetti - TIM Group's digital company for IoT solutions - and fabbricadigitale Srl and consists of the takeover of Mindicity, the business unit specialised in technology platforms for managing cities of the future.

The takeover follows the collaboration previously started on successful projects such as the Smart Control Room in Venice and will allow TIM to expand its portfolio of solutions and the expertise required to guarantee an end-to-end service in the urban environment. The initiative is an important step in the path of the TIM Group towards consolidating its leadership in offering IoT solutions for building Italian cities of the future.

TIM Urban Genius offers a genuine urban intelligence platform to collect, analyse and correlate data and information for supporting the decision-making processes of public administrations. The solution will enable, for example, the planning and optimisation of services in priority areas such as mobility, safety and valorisation of tourist attractions, the implementation and measurement of environmental transition initiatives, real-time predictive analysis and the prevention and management of emergencies.

"The operation announced today", says Elio Schiavo, TIM's Chief Enterprise and Innovative Solutions Officer, "is a milestone in the Group's new strategy to offer high value-added solutions to Large Customers and Public Administration. The objective we are pursuing is simple: we want to offer our customers a complete range of digital services and solutions, leveraging the unique nature of our skills. I am referring to our in-house technologies, i.e. Cloud, Security and IoT, and to our value chain, which is the most comprehensive among industry players. With these levers we will be able to give all our support to accelerate the digital transition of businesses in Italy".
