Swiss Fibre Net AG and Sunrise UPC expand their existing partnership

Via Sunrise UPC

May 17, 2022

This will allow Sunrise UPC to secure fast and stable access to FTTH fiber optic infrastructures throughout the entire area covered by Swiss Fibre Net. The partnership between SFN and Sunrise UPC goes back to as early as 2013 and was already renewed and expanded in 2018.

Long-term partnership with common goals

André Krause, CEO of Sunrise UPC, says: “Thanks to our fiber optics partnerships, we are able to ensure our long-term independence in the biggest cities and agglomerations.” On top of our powerful HFC network, the agreement with SFN allows us to supply residential and business customers in the vast majority of Swiss households and businesses with ultra-fast broadband products. Andreas Waber, CEO of SFN, confirms: “Sunrise UPC has been an SFN fiber optics customer for almost 10 years, and the partnership has continuously adapted to the requirements of the market. The renewal of the contract ensures significant advantages for both companies." Swiss Fibre Net and its partners can benefit from the fact that Sunrise UPC has doubled its market share after merging the two companies. This also increases the number of potential customers for fast FTTH connections on the SFN fiber optic networks. Sunrise UPC, in turn, benefits from attractive access conditions with SFN that reflect the new market situation. According to Waber: "This is an absolute win-win situation.”

Sunrise UPC supports SFN’s FTTH industry solution

In addition, Sunrise UPC has obtained long-term usage rights (IRU) for access to the FTTH infrastructures of all Swiss Fibre Net network partners in all regions of Switzerland. These include both energy providers and cable operators in addition to other providers. With this approach, SFN is aiming to create an industry-wide FTTH solution. Sunrise UPC welcomes the FTTH industry solution because it allows the FTTH expansion to take place without delay and at the same time sustainably strengthens competition in the wholesale business thanks to the addition of another provider of FTTH wholesale services.
