Community Fibre announces 300,000 homes passed

Via Community Fibre press room

Jul 29, 2021

London, UK – Community Fibre, London’s alternative network provider providing the fastest 100% full fibre broadband, announces today that it has passed 300,000 London homes and 12,000 businesses*. This milestone reflects a significant acceleration in Community Fibre’s network build programme to connect 1 million homes with its full fibre multi-gigabit capable broadband by 2023.

In the last six months, 100,000 additional homes have been given access to the Community Fibre network. This represents roughly a doubling in the rate of build versus the previous 100,000 homes. Community Fibre now has an extensive network presence in the London boroughs of Brent, Camden, Croydon, Hammersmith & Fulham, Newham, Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Wandsworth and Westminster and is building quickly in 17 other London boroughs.

Graeme Oxby, CEO of Community Fibre, said: “The last year has shown us that digital connectivity is just as important a utility as gas and electricity. As such, we have been working hard to ensure that all parts of London have access to a fast speed, highly available broadband network. We believe that London should have the best possible infrastructure to support its future growth ambitions. Our mission is to improve digital connectivity for all Londoners, and we are on track to reach 400,000 homes by the end of the year.”

Community Fibre is working closely with London’s largest landlords to build full fibre connectivity to their properties. It is currently working with more than 200 landlords, who have already granted Community Fibre with wayleave agreements to enable over 600,000 properties, with more agreements soon to be announced.

Historically Community Fibre has focussed on large apartment blocks but it is extending its network build to pass large numbers of individual and private properties. This combination of landlords and private homes ensures that its network covers many more properties and provides dense network coverage to local residents and businesses.

Community Fibre has built its business around the community it serves, ensuring that residents and businesses have the connections they need to thrive. In order to this, even with the ongoing pandemic, Community Fibre has a growing programme of support. It regularly supports customers by providing free connectivity to community centres, free or very low-cost connections for vulnerable users and support and training for digital inclusion initiatives.
