ZTE and China Mobile develop three ITU-T SPN international standards

Via ZTE Press Center

Sep 29, 2020

Shenzhen, China - ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, and China Mobile have developed three key international standards originated from SPN (Slicing Packet Network) : G.8312 (MTN interface), G.8310 (MTN architecture) and G.sup.mtn-migration . The three new standards will be released soon upon the review of the 8/9-16/9 virtual meeting held by the International Telecommunication Union Study Group 15 (ITU-T SG15).

This is another important milestone in the international standardization of 5G transport network technologies. It will effectively promote industry chain maturity and deployment of 5G transport networks, thereby laying a solid foundation for large-scale commercialization of the SPN technology worldwide.

SPN is a new technology system proposed by China Mobile for 5G transport based on the Ethernet technique. SPN features technical advantages of low latency, large bandwidth, ultra-high-precision synchronization, flexible management and control, and low cost as well.

As the basis of the ITU-T MTN (Metro Transport Network) standard, SPN has made significant contributions to the development of the MTN standard. Among the three MTN standards, the important standards (G.8312 and G.8310) approved at this ITU-T SG15 meeting have integrated some key features of the SPN technology, including Section and Path two-layer architecture, Path OAM insertion mechanism, using "0x4B+0xC" control code block, including basic block messages, APS (Automatic Protection Switching) messages and low-priority code block messages with 6bit Path OAM types, as well as Path BIP calculation method. These features have simplified Path OAM identification and processing, thus greatly contributing to the internationalization of the Path OAM standard.

Since China Mobile came up with the SPN technical framework in 2018, ZTE has been vigorously supporting the start-up and development of the SPN/MTN series standards in ITU-T, forming a new generation of transport network technology standards after SDH and OTN.

ITU-T (International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Department) is the leading United Nations agency for information and communication technologies. SG15 is one research group that focuses on optical transport network and access network technology standards. It has released a number of widely used transport network technology standards, such as SDH and OTN.

ZTE is a provider of advanced telecommunications systems, mobile devices and enterprise technology solutions to consumers, operators, companies and public sector customers. The company has been committed to providing customers with integrated end-to-end innovations to deliver excellence and value as the telecommunications and information technology sectors converge. Listed in the stock exchanges of Hong Kong and Shenzhen (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), ZTE sells its products and services in more than 160 countries.
