Vodafone extends largest 5G network to more places

Via Vodafone Media Centre

Jul 17, 2019

July 17, 2019

  • 5G now live in 15 UK towns and cities, with more to follow
  • 55 European towns and cities in total now with 5G
  • Worry-free unlimited 5G roaming coming soon, unlimited data in 77 destinations

Vodafone’s 5G network – already available in more places than any other UK provider – just got larger.

Customers can now start to experience 5G in Birkenhead, Bolton, Gatwick, Lancaster, Newbury, Plymouth, Stoke-on-Trent and Wolverhampton. They join Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, Manchester, Liverpool and London, which all went live with 5G on 3 July 2019.

Vodafone is also widening its 5G roaming footprint today by adding 20 towns and cities across Germany to the 35 places already on the 5G European roaming network, which will go live soon. Both consumers and business customers will be able to roam over 5G in some of the most popular tourist and business locations in Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK, at no additional cost.

Customers can also use Vodafone’s new unlimited data plans with 5G roaming. This will allow them to stream music, play online games, watch ultra-high definition TV and sport or upload photos and videos instantly without worrying about running out of data or running up a large bill. Vodafone Unlimited is also available on 4G in 77 destinations worldwide, the largest roaming footprint of any UK provider.

Vodafone UK Chief Executive Officer Nick Jeffery said: “Vodafone’s global presence means we can provide our consumer and business customers with 5G in more destinations than any other UK provider. Combined with our new unlimited data plans, we are offering customers the best roaming experience ever. They won’t have to hunt for Wi-Fi or rely on often expensive and slow hotel connections; they can use their 5G smartphones to enjoy faster roaming.”
