Caroline Chan, Vice President, Network Platforms Group & General Manager, 5G Infrastructure Division, Intel Corporation & Shekar Ayyar, Executive Vice President & General Manager, Telco NFV Group, VMware

Intel’s Caroline Chan and VMware’s Shekar Ayyar discuss the strengths of their companies' partnership. The two have worked especially well together around the open source Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK) technology, which operates at the processor level and has enabled them to develop support for high bandwidth, low latency applications, the core proposition for 5G. According to Caroline, while much 5G work has gone into virtualizing the RAN, virtualisation actually has to work hand in hand with the network behind the RAN as well and that is what is being pursued at the moment. This phase, says Shekar, is going to be the first time that CSPs are to be brought into, and made first class citizens of, the cloud economy.
