Telefónica del Perú and ZTE jointly construct the first commercial FMC IMS VoLTE network inPerú ; and in Telefónica LATAM
20 June 2016, Lima, Perú – ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, today jointly announced with Telefónica del Perú the commercial operation of the first IP Multimedia Subsystem Voice over Long-Term Evolution (IMS VoLTE) network in Perú and in Telefónica LATAM
Telefónica del Perú continues its leadership in the telecommunications technology industry in the region, as it overcomes its users’ highest requirements in Perú and greatly enhances its market competitiveness in Latin America. ZTE helps Telefónica del Peru build a unified fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) IMS platform to provide VoLTE and services for both mobile and landline users, which becomes the first commercial VoLTE and FMC network in Latin America.
In 2012, Telefónica del Perú modernised its landline network with the deployment of an IMS core network to replace the legacy TDM switches. ZTE IMS solution supports most of the existing Public Switched Telephone Network/ Integrated Services Digital Network (PSTN/ISDN) services and multiple legacy end user interfaces, such as Basic Rate Interface (BRI), Primary Rate Interface (PRI), Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) or Network-based Call Signalling (NCS),which helps Telefónica Del Perú to successfully overcome the challenges of dealing with legacy TDM switches and to lower operating expenditures while maintaining legacy terminals and service integrity. ZTE IMS solution supports not only narrow band access, but also broadband access technologies like LTE and xPON. These capabilities allow Telefónica Del Perú to lay the foundation of a future unified core network. In August 2015, after the commercial availability of the fixed IMS network, Telefónica Del Perú started to implement FMC and IMS VoLTE projects in order to fully improve its competitiveness in the mobile Internet era. Telefónica Del Perú continued to choose ZTE as the only vendor to implement IMS for this FMC project. ZTE upgraded the entities in the existing IMS network and built a new VoLTE session border controller (SBC) to complete the delivery.
ZTE’s IMS solution provides a very rich set of converged voice services in combination with the services already provided by the existing legacy network. Due to this project, Telefónica del Perú’s IMS network fully replicates the voice call and the supplementary services already available in the legacy circuit switched (CS) network, together with Value Added Services such as "Call Me Now" (CMN), "Voice Mail Service" (VMS), "Virtual Private Network" (VPN), "Missed Call Alert" (MCA), "Ring Back Tone" (RBT), "Call Collect" (CC) and TUGO. The solution provides VoLTE High Definition voice and video service, as well as voice and data combined services over LTE. ZTE delivered the project in less than 10 months, in a multi-vendor environment and supporting full network redundancy.
Mr. Pedro Planas, CTO at Telefónica del Perú said:
“ Telefónica del Perú has been and will be quite active on the evolution of its network to provide more profitable and competitive services for our users while reducing our TCO. We rely on ZTE to perform the network m odernisation project for both fixed and mobile networks. The whole project has been implemented quickly and smoothly and has demonstrated the management and fast delivery skills of ZTE. ** The new challenge for Telefónica del Perú is the evolution of the network toward virtualization technologies. We are very pleased to continue our collaboration with ZTE, a Telefónica reference partner in NFV technologies. ”
