Strategies at MWC: Huawei goes on the offensive

Huawei’s rotating chairman Guo Ping, has used the occasion of MWC (where it’s amongst a lot of friends) to go on the attack against US attempts to sideline the Chinese company, claiming that the rest of the telecoms industry would have much to lose if Huawei technology was removed from its options.

In his keynote address Guo Ping laid out Huawei’s case, claiming that if it was security you wanted, you need look no further than Huawei to provide it. He also leavened his address with wry observations on the stance of the Trump administration.

“Last month, Zealer published a report, saying that Huawei's 5G is 20 times faster than the so-called 5G in the US,” he told his audience. “That's in field tests. In commercial use, it is not 20 times faster but it's still much, much faster. So I fully understand what President Donald Trump said last week. The United States needs powerful, faster, and smarter 5G.” (note the ‘so-called’, surely a reference to AT&T’s 5GE).

So "Choose Huawei for greater security”, said Guo Ping, and get a technology lead at the same time. He pointed out that Huawei was the first company to deploy 5G networks at scale.

He claimed Huawei had developed the most powerful, simple, and intelligent 5G network technology in the world, and argued that such innovation is nothing without security. He urged the industry and governments to work together and adopt unified cyber security standards. Read more...
