SK Telecom and Ericsson win award for 5G connected car trial

Ericsson and SK Telecom were awarded ‘Best 5G Trial Between an Operator and Vendor’ at the recent TechXLR8 Awards.

The TechXLR8 awards, which were held, June 14, 2017 during 5G World in London, recognize outstanding contributions in 5G, virtual and augmented reality, IoT, Cloud, connected cars and artificial intelligence.

The award recognized both company’s ground-breaking work conducting the first multi-vehicular 5G trials. During the trial, Ericsson and SK Telecom, successfully deployed network slicing and 5G radio network infrastructure to cover a complete test track at the BMW driving center in Yeongjong-do, South Korea.

Ericsson is working closely with leading operators and their dedicated teams to realize the potential of 5G. Meet the 5G heroes of SK Telecom, listen to their visions and learn about the trials that are underway to enable new use cases.

 In partnership with SK Telecom and BMW Korea, Ericsson used advanced 5G technology to track a connected car travelling up to 170 km/hour to demonstrate data transmission speeds on a 5G network.
