**Singapore, 5 August, 2015 – ** Singtel has finalised a deal with Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific to carry sports channels ** Eurosport ** (Ch 112) and ** Eurosport News ** (Ch 113) on Singtel TV. With this, sports fans will now have access to extensive ‘live’ coverage of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League matches on Singtel TV. The channels start broadcasting from 11 August, right on time for fans to catch the curtain raiser for the season, the UEFA Super Cup between Barcelona and Sevilla at 2.45 am on 12 August.
To provide the widest coverage of the two UEFA leagues, whenever concurrent matches are being played, additional matches may be selected and shown through Eurosport 360 on Singtel TV’s simulcast channel 111.
With the launch of these channels, Singtel TV reinforces its position as the pay TV service with the most comprehensive coverage of ‘live’ football matches in Singapore. In addition to being home of the Barclays Premier League broadcasts, the platform recently added ELEVEN, a channel dedicated to first-rate football action, offering extensive ‘live’ HD coverage of the top European leagues and cup competitions including FA Cup, Capital One Cup, Italian Serie A, English Championship, Scottish Premier League, Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana.
Besides marquee football content, Eurosport features over 60 genres of sports content, offering viewers a chance to watch the world’s best athletes battle it out in their respective arenas.
In September, viewers can look forward to the last Grand Slam tennis tournament of the year, the US Open on Eurosport. Aired “live”, fiery competition is expected from the Big Four of tennis – Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Andy Murray, and Rafael Nadal. Fans can enjoy “Game, Set and Mats Extra”, a post-game show which offers the most important insights at key moments of the day, alongside exclusive player interviews and expert analysis with the legendary Mats Wilander. The addition of US Open to its line up now means Singtel TV customers have access to all four tennis Grand Slams.
“The Eurosport channels are a valuable addition to the Singtel TV suite as they carry marquee UEFA football league matches in addition to a wealth of premium sport content,” said Mr Goh Seow Eng, MD, Home, Consumer Singapore. “As the home of sports, Singtel TV aims to offer unsurpassed quality in sports entertainment, and the new additions further complete our offering in this area.”
“The full suite of Discovery factual and lifestyle channels was recently made available to Singtel TV customers. And now the launch of Eurosport and Eurosport News further enhances our offering to Singtel's subscribers. We are thrilled that as part of this deal, Singtel’s customers will continue to enjoy some of the most exciting football tournaments – UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League – on Eurosport and Eurosport 360. With our ongoing content investment, we look forward to making Discovery's portfolio of channels a must-have for Singtel TV viewers,” said Enrique Martinez, Acting President and Managing Director, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific.
Also launching on Singtel TV is round-the-clock sports news channel, Eurosport News (CH 113) which will keep enthusiasts updated with live scores, highlights, breaking news and commentary.
Both channels are available for free preview to all Singtel TV set-top box subscribers from 11 August to 10 September (excluding commercial customers).
Eurosport and Eurosport News will replace mio Sports 2 and mio Sports 3 respectively. Sports fans can also download award-winning streaming app, Singtel TV GO, for convenient access to the Eurosport while on the go.
