How HPE is supporting the evolution to 5G networks

The industry is seeing an explosion of data at the edge, created by the opportunities presented by IoT and AI/ML, which in turn is requiring increased compute resources at the edge, along with the connectivity to get back to the data center. All of this is driving the requirement for new 5G networks.

But 5G presents its own set of challenges for telcos, many centred around monetization and automation. There is a need to move away from vertically integrated solutions to a multi-vendor solution; apps need lower latency; and telcos need to deliver with the agility afforded by automation – which is only enabled by a combination of a true cloud native 5G core plus network slicing.

HPE offers solutions from the telco cloud to the enterprise edge, from a cloud native 5G core on proven carrier-grade servers to enabling vRAN and MEC at the edge of the network. In addition, as the standards for 5G evolve, its access-agnostic 5G core will allow telcos to use Wi-Fi 6 as a RAN technology, alongside 5G NR and 4G, to provide coverage within buildings – and over time will allow customers to seamlessly roam from one network to the other.
