Broadcom and NETGEAR kickstart the Max WiFi ecosystem to bring the benefits of 802.11ax into the residential market; Delivers higher capacity and fast speeds for the modern connected home

SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 06, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ:AVGO), today announced volume shipments of its BCM43684 Max WiFi 802.11ax SoC, the first in the industry to be fully compliant with the IEEE 802.11ax specification and the upcoming 802.11ax certification. Designed for the residential Wi-Fi market, Max WiFi chips are being deployed by NETGEAR with its Nighthawk product line.

Broadcom’s Max WiFi is the sixth generation of Wi-Fi and supports the delivery of simultaneous video, voice, data, and IoT services to an ever increasing number of wireless devices in the home. The BCM43684 delivers high-speed Wi-Fi simultaneously to multiple devices in the home with unprecedented quality of service. Max WiFi chips provide up to four times faster download speeds, six times faster upload speeds, and with four times better coverage than previous 802.11ac Wi-Fi technology.

“A little over one year ago Broadcom announced availability of Max WiFi products and committed to bringing the most advanced Wi-Fi technology ever implemented to consumers,” said Greg Fischer, senior vice president and general manager, Broadband Carrier Access, Broadcom. “Broadcom’s close collaboration with NETGEAR to enable 802.11ax-based Nighthawk routers will provide consumers with best-in-class Wi-Fi performance delivered using the very latest technology.”

“As the leader in home networking solutions, NETGEAR is proud to announce our commitment to bring Broadcom’s Max WiFi technology to market,” said David Henry, senior vice president of Connected Home Products at NETGEAR. “By combining the Broadcom BCM43684 SoC with the engineering proficiency of NETGEAR, our customers will gain unmatched reliability for video streaming, lower latency for gaming, and faster sharing of files and photos.”
