VMware customers reveal how VMware NSX SD-WAN by VeloCloud helps them navigate the digital infrastructure that powers their business

European customers and partners choose VMware’s SD-WAN technology to facilitate the digital transformation of networking

BARCELONA, Spain, Nov. 07, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today at VMworld 2018 Europe, VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW) announced that customers across Europe are leveraging VMware NSX SD-WAN by VeloCloud to simplify complex wide-area networking. Among those benefiting from the technology solutions are two European companies – IFM, which produces and distributes systems and components of automation technology for industrial companies; and Elekta, an innovator of equipment and software that enhances the delivery of precision radiation therapy while driving cost efficiencies in clinical workflows.

VMware NSX SD-WAN is the industry-leading SD-WAN solution that enables simple, agile and more secure branch connectivity for thousands of customers globally. NSX SD-WAN, the most widely deployed powerful branch and edge connectivity platform, combines the economics and flexibility of a real-time network overlay with the deployment speed, scale and automation of cloud-delivered services. With NSX SD-WAN, organizations of all sizes and in any industry can support application growth, network agility, and simplified branch implementations, and optimize access to cloud data centers and SaaS applications. NSX SD-WAN is available as a service or as an on-premises software solution through a channel network including service providers, value added resellers and system integrators.

“Widespread migration to cloud applications, constraints of legacy network models and the disparate nature of global enterprise locations require a solution that enables a faster, easier deployment and operation of WAN,” said Sanjay Uppal, vice president and general manager, VeloCloud Business Unit, VMware. “With the digital transformation of networking upon us, customers are turning to SD-WAN technology to navigate this evolution. Today, global organizations are taking advantage of VMware NSX SD-WAN by VeloCloud and VMware’s vision of a Virtual Cloud Network to enable simple, agile and more secure branch connectivity. We’re proud to highlight European customers and partners leading this journey.”

European Customers Discover Immediate Benefits with VMware NSX SD-WAN

IFM
Based in Germany, IFM adopted VMware NSX SD-WAN to manage a highly complex IT network that’s accessed by 6,700 employees across 130 locations worldwide. Prior to its adoption of the technology, IFM had been looking for a solution that would allow them to reduce the complexity of its network by centralizing network management, improving bandwidth availability and enhancing performance for cloud applications.

“The ability to centralize management of our wide-area network has allowed us to optimize resources while also addressing other critical pieces of the IT puzzle, including network security and quality of service for cloud applications and services,” said Sascha Piech, Head of Network & Communication at IFM electronic GmbH. “The solution’s unique Dynamic Multipath Optimization (DMPO) feature provided an immediate improvement to application performance during the proof-of-concept phase, providing the confidence we needed to implement the solution across all locations globally. VMware NSX SD-WAN has enabled IFM to not only be more agile but also to optimize valuable IT resources in a way that wasn’t possible before.”

Elekta
The Swedish company, a pioneer and leader in precision radiation medicine, develops solutions for treating cancer and brain disorders. Its advanced, effective solutions are created in collaboration with customers, and more than 6,000 hospitals worldwide rely on Elekta technology. To improve its global network infrastructure and prepare for future growth, Elekta adopted NSX SD-WAN to enable it to phase out its MPLS network, connect global locations and advance its push into the cloud. It needed a solution that would better connect those services to enable the work being done across 28 countries.

“As an innovation leader in radiation oncology, Elekta always strives to provide the most secure IT solutions and to be on the forefront of new technology,” said Martin Kerkhoven, vice president, Information Technology at Elekta. “Compared to a legacy firewall/WAN optimization solution, with bolt-on SD-WAN capabilities, the pure-play NSX SD-WAN provided the best functionality among all the solutions we evaluated. The DMPO functionality in particular provides the stable network connectivity that we were looking for. We saw deployment times reduced by 50 percent on average compared to MPLS and an increased availability through multiple connections per site, traversing diverse routes and without compromising QoS. The ability to quickly and securely integrate and build out various cloud services using this technology is a big win and positions us for future growth and optimized deployments of applications and cloud services. The stability and continuity of the technology gives us the reassurances needed to deploy the solution globally.”

Solutions Enable Channel Partners to Better Serve their Customers
Channel partners are finding value in VMware NSX SD-WAN offering by enabling their customers a broad range of solutions to meet their specific needs. Among them are two UK-based companies: Exertis, a systems integrator, and Westcon, a value-added reseller.

“As a market-leading global distribution partner, Exertis is at the forefront of new and emerging trends and technologies that will help our customers to adopt solutions for both today and tomorrow,” said Jim Lehane, head of security and emerging technology, Exertis. “VMware technologies such as VMware SD-WAN is providing the network of the future to allow organizations with the flexibility and agility they need to transition and grow in their digital transformation journeys.”

“At Westcon, we pride ourselves on the way we are transforming the technology supply chain through our cloud, services and global deployment capabilities,” said David Grant, chief operating officer, Westcon. “Partnering with VMware means we can now offer industry-leading cloud delivered technologies such as VMware NSX SD-WAN to existing customers, while evangelising the SD-WAN addressable market opportunity to potential new value-added resellers (VARs) and system integrators across our existing collaboration, infrastructure and security portfolios.”
