Michał Mędrala, Head of OSS Product Management and Consulting at Comarch

One of the most intriguing aspects of the evolution of network technologies is automation. It is a vital component of digital transformation as are zero touch maintenance and optimisation. As Michal Medrala explains there are various conceptual approaches to meeting the challenges created by the impetus to network change and the the stresses and strains that will be placed on OSS systems as the transformation process nears completion.

Optimisation matters because the boom in mobile data traffic being experienced across the world’s mobile markets represents a serious threat to carrier performance and customer satisfaction and unhappy subscribers are more willing then ever to vote with their feet and churn away to rival CSPs. What's more, 5G will require new levels of performance across telecoms networks if compelling new services, new ecosystems and new revenue streams are to be enabled.

To exploit the potential power of 5G technologies, telecoms operators and CSPs will need to rethink and redefine their role, what value to deliver and how to determine what business models to use.
