Project Calico FuelPlugin Achieves Mirantis Certification

Via Metaswitch News Room

Sep 17, 2015

Project Calico continues its work with Mirantis to provide simplified, scalable virtual networking for OpenStack

Metaswitch Networks, the world’s leading network software provider and the sponsor of the open-source Project Calico, today announced that Mirantis has certified Project Calico with Mirantis OpenStack, a market-leading OpenStack distribution that’s easy to install and operate at scale. Users can now deploy Project Calico using a Calico Plugin for Fuel, an open-source deployment and control plane for OpenStack.

Fuel acts as a single control plane that lets operators easily deploy Mirantis OpenStack. Fuel Plugins add the ability to deploy OpenStack with new features, reducing or eliminating the need for manual integration, configuration, and patching. With the Calico Fuel Plugin, customers can automatically deploy OpenStack control and compute nodes using Calico virtual networking. The resulting solution will support flexible, scalable, and secure networking between diverse workloads and across data centers, without requiring any kind of overlay network.

“The Calico Fuel Plugin provides the only seamless, scalable, secure Layer 3 Virtual Networking for Mirantis OpenStack,” says Andy Randall, general manager of Metaswitch’s networking business unit. “Through our collaboration with Mirantis and our participation in its Mirantis Unlocked partner program, we’re meeting the very real market need of network operators that want the benefits of OpenStack delivered in a much more easily deployable and scalable way.”

“Because Mirantis OpenStack is a pluggable platform, it lets companies use best-of-breed NFV technologies, such as Project Calico, to best serve their use cases,” says Mirantis VP for Product Marketing, Kamesh Pemmaraju. “Operators choose Calico for better wire-speed performance and scalability. With the new Calico Fuel Plugin, it is easier than ever to deploy Calico on Mirantis OpenStack.”
