MEO launches MEO Go VR with Altice Labs Technology

Via PT Inovacao

May 16, 2017

news image

MEO is the first television operator in Portugal to enter the world of Virtual Reality. This step is done through its MEO Go service which, after being the first multiplatform television service in Portugal to be present on the most relevant mobile operating systems (Android, iOS and Windows), now offers access to the best TV content in a virtual reality, through the Samsung Gear VR glasses.

With the launch of MEO Go VR, MEO reaffirms its strategy to build the best, most innovative and complete television experience in Portugal and worldwide.

In the new MEO Go VR application, the user will be at the center of the action and will live a unique and immersive experience, where their senses and emotions will be explored more deeply, through the visualization of 360º content.

At launch, the application will feature 360º videos of MEO partners, including SIC, SyFy, FTV, History and Clubbing, which can be viewed by any user.

The 360 ° environment of the MEO Go VR application will also carry users to a virtual, technologically advanced living room where MEO customers with MEO Go will be able to view their favorite channels live on a "giant" screen.

Several internal teams contributed to the development of this solution, including Altice Labs and Gema Digital, a specialist in the creation of digital and technological projects in the area of virtual reality, 4D experiences, augmented reality, videomapping, interactive games, holography, among others.

The launch of the MEO Go VR application follows the availability of the new Galaxy S8 Smartphone, reinforcing the partnership between Portugal Telecom and Samsung. The application works on Samsung Gear VR eyewear and is compatible with Samsung Galaxy S8, S8 +, S7, S7 edge, S6, S6 Edge, S6 edge + with internet connection equipment, which can be purchased at a MEO store.

In order to share this innovation with Portuguese customers, MEO provides MEO Go VR test points in MEO stores. This action started on the 5th May in MEO stores throughout the country.

It should be noted that the MEO Go service is available at no additional cost to MEO customers with television and internet service at home, depending on the subscribed package. The MEO Go Multi service, which allows access to any internet connection in Portugal (3G / 4G or Wi-Fi), with traffic included in the MEO mobile network, is also available via subscription.

This is another set of innovative features that Altice Labs has helped develop for the differentiating services that MEO offers. For this project Altice Labs has developed all the integration with the MEO backend services, namely video player, authentication, authorization and content catalog management.
